Clare was able to make quick work of host Shepherd on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The Lady Pioneers, playing on the Lady Bluejays home court, picked up the win in straight sets, 25-16, 15-18 and 25-17.

“Shepherd’s defense really improved and we had to be efficient in our offense to get the win,” head coach Shannon Zinser said. “We are playing well together and working hard to finish the season strong as we head into the post-season.”

Leading the team on the night was Bailey Taylor with 10 kills, 11 digs, two blocks and one ace, Jenna Betts had eight kills, 11 digs and one block, Olivia Cook added eight kills, nine digs and two blocks and Abby Mellish was good for 25 assists and seven digs.

Clare was at Pinconning for a JPC quad match on Wednesday to wrap up the regular season. The Pioneers open division two district play on Wednesday at Chippewa Hills. The Pioneers play the winner of Monday’s game between Tawas Area and Standish-Sterling with Ogemaw Heights, Gladwin and host Chippewa Hills also in the district. The district finals are set for Thursday.
