Things didn’t start off well for the Farwell baseball team in its Clare division three pre-district game against Evart on Tuesday night. The Eagles rebounded from an early hole however, as they picked up a 3-2 win to advance themselves to Saturday’s district semi-finals.

“I’m proud of the kids on the district win, it has been awhile since we made it past the pre-district game,” head coach Josh Higgins said.

The Wildcats scored two runs in the top of the first inning, both were unearned thanks to a pair of Farwell errors.

The Eagles shut down Evart from there however, as they eventually tied the game at 2-2. In the bottom of the seventh, Noah Silvestro scored the game-winning run after the pitcher tried to pick him off at third base, but instead had a wild throw to lead to the Eagle win.

Johnny Cogswell was the winning pitcher for Farwell. He pitched all seven innings and gave up zero earned runs.

Farwell plays Beaverton on Saturday in the district semi-finals. Clare and Harrison play in the other semi-final.
