Montabella and Farwell combined to score well over 100 points on Saturday. The Mustangs were nearly unstoppable however, as the Eagles suffered a 74-36 non-conference loss in the season finale.

“Our players played hard especially with the injuries that we have and the player we are missing,” head coach Travis Waddell said.

The Eagles were able to put up 455 yards of offense, led by Logan Wunderlich who had 218 yards rushing and three touchdowns and he also had 70 yards receiving and one score. Devon St. John had 116 yards rushing and one touchdown and Bradin Maxey was four-of-nine passing for 89 yards and one score.

“My final thoughts on the season is that I felt we were really close,” Waddell said. “I believe our record does not really show how well we played this season. We had the most offensive yards as a team since 2011, the second most points since 2012. Offensively Logan Wunderlich was the first 1000-yard rusher since 2012 and as a team we had 2238 yds rushing. Defensively we gave up the fewest points since 2013.”

Waddell is still adamant that things are turning around in the program.

“I believe things are moving in the right direction, change does not happen over night,” he said. “We have seen improvements, but we are obviously not where we want to be yet. We will work hard this off-season, and will continue to develop our offensive and defensive schemes. We look to continue to open the offense up. We were in the shotgun against Montabella almost the whole game and had our best offensive game of the season. We have developed our run schemes through the full house ‘T’ and look to use the shotgun formation to spread people out using these same concepts next year.”
