The Mid-Michigan Golf Conference had its first league jamboree on Saturday in Gladwin, with Roscommon narrowly winning the event with an 18-hole team score of 336. Farwell was close behind in second at 338 and Pinconning took third with a 360. Gladwin placed fourth with a 386, Clare was fifth with a 394, with Sacred Heart, placing six, Houghton Lake was seventh and Standish Sterling was eighth.
Taylor Larrabee took third place for Farwell, shooting an 81. Also competing for the Eagles was Mitch Nordstrom with an 84, Josh McCurry carded an 85, Keith Campbell had an 88, Nicholas Saupe shot 93 and Sean Robison had a 97.
“So far this season I am happy with the team’s attitude and effort,” Farwell head coach Bernie Starnes said. “It’s fun to watch them compete and improve. We have the ability to go six deep with our scoring.”
The Pioneers were led by Zack Brokway with an 87, Justin Lemke had a 99, Brock Demo shot 101, Grant Good carded a 107 and Evan Schumacher had a 116.
On April 24 Farwell competed at Royal Oak Golf Course, placing second with a team score of 352, with Tawas Area winning the event with a 340.
Campbell and Nordstrom both shot an 86, Saupe, Larrabee both carded a 90, Robison had a 92 and McCurry had a 99.
“With the weather being very cold, I thought the team played fairly well,” Starnes said. “I have a godo team this year. I’m starting to see improvement and the guys are finding where their strengths and weaknesses are. We plan on working hard the rest of the season to improve as a team.”
