Farwell softball splits at Meridian

Farwell dropped the first contest of Tuesday night’s Jack Pine Conference doubleheader 9-2, but rebounded nicely in the nightcap, pulling off a 5-4 win.
Kate Saupe suffered the loss in game one of the Jack Pine Conference contest, giving up 11 hits and striking out six batters.
Alysha Luster hit a solo home run, while Saupe had a single and an RBI. Bekah Averill added a single and scored a run.
Caron White scattered 11 hits to pick up the win in game two, pitching out of continual jams despite not striking out a single batter all night.
White had one home run, one double, four RBI and one run,Luster had a double and score two runs, Saupe had a single and a run and Jessie Theisen added a single.
“We played well with them all night but they came out scoring in the first inning of the first game and scored six runs,” Farwell head coach Steve Klinge said. “We could not recover from that. In the second game, we played great defense. White didn’t have any strikeouts but she kept them off balance just enough.”
On Thursday, May 2 the Eagles swept Gladwin by scores of 5-4 and 7-5 in another JPC contest.
Saupe earned the win in game one, giving up nine hits and striking out 10 batters.
Theisen had a double and an RBI with Luster, White and Jenna McKinley all adding one hit apiece.
White earned the win in game two, giving up eight hits and striking out four batters.
Theisen had a home run (third of the season) andadded  a single and finished with four RBI. Nina Buccilli, Luster and White had one single apiece.
“We did not play well, but two wins are two wins no matter how they look,” Klinge said. “We are short two starters due to sickness but everyone stepped up and played well. We hit the ball hard all night, but we’re hitting it at them and they made really good defensive plays.”
Farwell (12-4 overall, 8-2 JPC) hosts Beal City tonight (Friday), plays in the Grayling Tournament on Saturday and plays at Beaverton on Tuesday.
