The Harrison Hornet football team opened the season with great disappointment on Thursday, Aug. 29, falling to host Lake City 45-0 in both team’s non-conference season opener.

“We played a terrible game,” Harrison head coach Mike Petrongelli said. “Did very little well. (A positive was) the play of some of the players but we need to get everyone to play hard.”

Trojan quarterback Drew Marion lit up the Hornets for five rushing touchdowns and threw one touchdown as Lake City took leads of 14-0 after the first, 26-0 at the half and 38-0 entering the fourth for a running clock.

Justin Yager led the Harrison offense by going five-of-10 passing for 48 yards and two interceptions and added 26 yards rushing on six carries and Zack Nowland ran the ball five times for 41 yards.

Clay Dennis had seven tackles to lead the Hornet defense, Bret Coughlin had six tackles, Thomas Nunnally had an interception and Gavin Rhodes had a fumble recovery.

Harriosn (0-1) plays at Evart (1-0) tonight (Friday). The Wildcats are coming off a 33-7 win over Suttons Bay last week and have won the last three meeting’s between the two programs.

“Evart is a big, physical football team,” Petrongelli said. “We are going to have to play a whole lot better than at Lake City.”
