Had Farwell gotten off to a faster start to its non-league home game with Evart Tuesday night, it might have been able to pick up a win. The Lady Eagles only had four points in the first frame however and could never quite get their offense untracked, eventually falling 33-31.

“Story of the game was a very slow start,” head coach Michael Groulx said.

“Evart jumped out to a 13-4 first quarter lead and continued that momentum into the early second quarter. We finally got our defense rolling and went into halftime down 21-17.”

Raini Sponseller did hit a three in the third quarter, but Farwell could only add a two-pointer by Madi Travis as Evart led 25-22 entering the fourth.

“In the second half, we played great defensively only giving up 12 total points but could nut buy a basket it seemed like,” Groulx said. “I thought we did a good job of getting really good looks but credit Evart who contested every shot opportunity we got. We had two opportunities to tie it late, but three different shots did not fall. I was extremely proud of the effort defensively after the first quarter but we have to do a better job of execution offensively which starts with me.”

Travis led the Eagles with 10 points, Raini Sponseller had six points, Remi Sponseller and Maddy Travis had four points each, Baylee Blain finished with three and Anna Pitts chipped in with two.

Farwell (5-2 overall) hosts Gladwin tonight (Friday), hosts Beaverton on Wednesday and stays at home with Clare on Friday, Jan. 17.
