Two of the area’s top pitchers battled it out on the softball field Tuesday, with host Farwell coming away with a pair of Jack Pine Conference wins, 5-0 and 6-4.
Kate Saupe got the win in the opener, pitching a complete game and striking out 16 batters.
Saupe also hit a home run to help her own cause and Alisha Luster socked a homer as well.

Allison Lipovsky suffered the loss in game one, though Lipovsky, who recently reached the 1000 career strikeout mark, fanned 11 batters and walked two.
Katelynn Mogg had the only hit for Harrison.

“We really struggled to put the ball in play and struck out too much,” Harrison head coach Matt Cooper said. “It is difficult to beat a team like Farwell when we strike out 28 times. Farwell took advantage of our defensive errors and was able to score some runs, especially in the second game.”

The Lady Hornets surged ahead 4-0 in the night-cap, though Grace Saupe entered the game in the second inning and shut down the Hornets from there.
Grace Saupe finished with eight strikeouts and gave up just four hits.

Jessie Theisen led the offense with a double, while Luster, G. Saupe and K. Saupe all singled.
Lipovsky was stuck with the loss, pitching seven innings and giving up six runs, three earned on seven hits, eight strikeouts and two walks.
Toni Fletcher had a double while Dani Cullen, Erica Cullen, Mogg, Nichole Willman, Allysa Bennett and Kourtney Krchmar all singled.

Harrison hosted Gladwin on Thursday, is at McBain on Monday and travels to Houghton Lake on Tuesday.
