Clare lost its back-and-forth Jack Pine Conference girls’ basketball game at Beaverton on Thursday, Dec. 17, having a game-winning shot just miss as it fell 42-41.
“We’re not where we want to be, sitting at 3-2 but we’ve lost two tough road games by a combined three points,” Clare head coach Kevin Richards said. “Our effort has been there, but we need to execute.”

Clare led 13-7 after the first quarter but a rough second frame saw it trail 20-15 at the half. The Lady Pioneers rebounded to lead 34-32 entering the fourth, but the Lady Beavers jumped back ahead and hung on for the win after Clare’s final shot was off the mark.

Morgan English led Clare with 14 points and three rebounds, Mackenzie Thayer had nine points and five rebounds, Natalee Kunse had six points, three rebounds and two steals, Kenzie Humphrey had four points and two rebounds, Lexy Harton and Olivia Cooper both had four points as well, with Cooper adding six steals and two boards.

Clare (3-2 overall, 2-2 JPC) hits the court again on Jan. 6 when it hosts Harrison.
