eventually Houghton Lake found its feet and handed Clare a 67-52 loss.

“We came out on fire, give them credit they bounced back and steadily worked their way back into the game,” head coach Dave Maxwell said. “I’m really proud of how we competed, we just didn’t have enough.”

Olivia Haring helped Clare get off to the fast start, as she hit from three shots from deep and finished with 11 points in the frame. Bailey Taylor and Emma Coker had three each in the quarter as the Pioneers led 18-11 after one.

In the second, Taylor hit for four points and Haring hit another three, though the Bobcats surged ahead to lead 31-29 at the half.

Haring netted five more in the third though H-L made it a double-digit lead entering the fourth, 46-36.

Pacing the team in the loss was Haring with 23 points, Coker had 14 points and Taylor netted seven. Payton Pace netted three points, Madison Parish and Brooklyn Tocco had two points each and Regan Weeks had one.

Clare (6-4 overall, 5-3 JPC) was at Meridian on Thursday, heads to Reed City Tuesday, travels to Harrison on Thursday and hosts Beal City on Feb. 11.
