There was apparently no post-holiday rust for the Clare girls basketball team on Friday, Jan. 10. The Lady Pioneers, playing a home Jack Pine Conference game with Meridian in their first contest since the new year, outscored the Lady Mustangs in every quarter to allow them to pick up a 50-32 win.

The Pioneers led just 14-11 after the first quarter, but steadily built on that lead as the night went on, holding 25-19 and 38-26 gaps at the other quarter breaks.

Bailey Taylor was able to hit a pair of threes and finished with 15 points on the night, and she also had four assists, four rebounds and three steals. Payton Pace added nine points and five rebounds, Emmah Coker added eight points, eight rebounds, two blocks and one steal, Monica McPhail was able to put in five points and she also had four rebounds, two steals and one assist. Megan Gross and Ava Crowder had four points each, with Gross able to swipe seven steals and Crowder added six rebounds and five steals. Sofiah Coker added three points, two rebounds and two steals and Brooklyn Tocco had two points, two rebounds and two assists.

Clare (5-1 overall, 4-1 JPC) was at Harrison on Wednesday, heads for Ogemaw Heights on Monday and is at home against Gladwin on Thursday.
