Clare may have lost is home Jack Pine Conference boys’ basketball game with Beaverton on Friday, but nonetheless, head coach Rob Wise was pleased.
“I thought we played a nice game,” he said after the 52-46 loss. “We had a chance to tie with a minute left and turned it over. We had good looks and Scott Smith played a great all around game.”

Clare led 15-13 after the first quarter but fell behind at the half, 25-21. The Pioneers tied things up at 34-all entering the fourth, where the Beavers had an 18-12 advantage to pick up the win.

Smith led Clare with 22 points and seven rebounds, Travis Vida had nine points and Connor Clickner netted eight.
On Wednesday, Dec. 17 Clare played at Houghton Lake in another JPC game, winning 61-40.

Clarre led just 15-13 after the first quarter but took control of the game in the second, taking a 30-18 lead. The Pioneers finished the night off with 18-14 and 13-8 scoring edges in the third and fourth quarters.

Smith paced Clare with 19 points and nine rebounds, Vida had 14 points, Camden Dice Scored 10, Max Swan had eight, Mason Packard had five points, 11 rebounds and six assists, Clickner had three points and Sam Adkins had two points.

Clare (2-2 overall, 2-1 JPC) is off until Jan. 7 when it plays at Beaverton.
