The good news is that the Clare football team picked up its sixth win of the season Friday night, when it topped Jack Pine Conference foe Meridian, 68-46 on homecoming night. The bad news is that the Pioneers lost a pair of key players to injury in the process.

Pioneer quarterback Kaden Kelly had a hot touch early on, as he was six-of-eight passing for 207 yards and three touchdowns. He also had a pair of touchdown runs, one from two yards out and the other form 22 yards away, giving Clare a comfortable lead part way through the third quarter.

Kelly left the contest with an arm injury and the fast running Meridian player Kyle Stockford did all he could to keep the Mustangs around, as he hauled in catches for several big gains and also had 50-yard interception returned for a touchdown in the second half.

The Pioneers also lost key defensive back and running back Kolt Lincoln late in the game, with an ankle injury, though the team was able to hang on to the win.
Also adding touchdowns for the Pioneers in the game was Tanner Punches, Tyler Rodenbo, Lincoln, Brenden Sersaw and Nick Roe.

Sersaw finished with six catches for 104 yards and Ryan Pummell and Lincoln had 10 tackles apiece on defense. Sersaw also returned a fumble 80 yards for a touchdown and Roe had an interception and a fumble recovery.

Clare (6-1 overall, 5-0 JPC) hosts Roscommon (2-5, 1-4) tonight (Friday). The Bucks are coming off a 42-21 victory over Gladwin last week.
