The process has begun to develop a Rental Ordinance for Surrey Township.
Planning Commission Chair Mahlon (Buzz) Parsons reported that the first draft was ready for the Surrey Township Board to look over and make any changes if needed.
The ordinance will require rental inspections to protect both the landlords and tenants, he said earlier.
A Public Hearing on the proposed ordinance will be held by the Planning Commission on June 4 at 7 p.m. at the Surrey Township Board Room.
In another matter, Budget Hearings were set and also a Public Hearing to adopt the new budget. The workshops will be at 4 p.m. on June 12th and June 26th, and the Public Hearing and adoption of the new budget will be held at the beginning of the regular June 11 board meeting.
The board also approved a change in auditors, from Yeo and Yeo of Midland to Weinlander Fitzhugh of Clare, a move that will save the township about $4,000 according to Treasurer Esther Pitchford.
Other business at the meeting Tuesday included:
*a report from County Commissioner Lynn Grim, which included a request that board members participate in the update of the Hazardous Management Plan update; upcoming fundraisers; and that the new solar panels have been installed to provide 95 percent of the Clare County Transit building’s electrical needs.
*a report of Fire Chief Dave Williams, who reported that the fire truck is paid off; NFPA 1 and 101 for fire safety and fire prevention were approved for June; and that turn out gear has arrived.
*the removal of Donna Jones and addition of Deputy Clerk/Treasurer Joan Farwell on the bank signature cards.
*approval to waive purchase of foreclosed property.
*approval of the County Equalization contract and the $2,994.00 payment for their service.
*approval of bills totaling $76,391.13.
