Curt Morton was involved with education at the community college level most of his adult life and spent several years at MMCC. One of his favorite past times was reading. When his wife heard about the little libraries she felt it would be a fitting tribute to him to have one in Clare. Curt’s Lending Library is at the Congregational Church across from the Post Office.
Resembling small birdhouses, these libraries are weatherproof cabinets with several books inside. Borrow one, read one, bring it back or bring another.
These small buildings hold books collected by or donated to a person whose job is to tend to the library, making sure it’s clean, not leaking and has books.
It’s an idea that has caught on. The first library was set up in Wisconsin in 2009 and they are new in almost every state and 20 countries.
