The Lady Pioneers put forth a solid defensive effort on Tuesday night, topping the host Reed City Coyotes, 40-31.

With the score tied 10-10 after one quarter, the Pioneers outscored the Coyotes 14-6 in the second to take a commanding 24-16 lead into the half.

Despite struggling offensively, Clare’s defense was relentless coming out of halftime, holding their opponent to three points in the third.  The Coyotes would cut the lead to 7 in the fourth, but that’s as close as it would get.

“I was very happy with our defensive effort,” said Pioneer coach Dave Maxell. “That’s a very physical team, and we were able to match their intensity.  We didn’t shoot well, but we were able to take care of the ball, and had a nice game from Bailey to pull it out.”

Bailey Taylor led the Pioneers with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 steals. Emma Coker added 8 points and 8 rebounds, while Brooklyn Tocco collected 11 boards.

Clare [7-4 overall] travels to Harrison [5-5 overall] on Thursday for a Jack Pine tilt.
