Fruchey told WNEM TV-5 that crews found the fire so intense that they could not initially get into the home.

According to several other posts, officials were further hampered by the condition of the building in their search after the fire was contained for the three who were unable to escape the blaze.

The victims’ bodies were recovered and have been taken for autopsies.

9 &10 News reported that the fire started in the northwest area of the home. Fruchey said the northwest side of the home had the heaviest damage.

Officials’ initial findings indicated that a wood stove may have caused the fire. Reportedly the wood stove was in the basement of the home.

The state fire marshal has been called in to investigate.
