United Way adds Reinke, Schafer to board

United Way of Clare and Gladwin Counties welcomes new board members
United Way of Clare and Gladwin Counties is pleased to announce the addition of two new members to their Board of Directors. Elaine Reinke and Matt Schafer will join the board at their next regular meeting on Oct. 9 at 7:30 a.m.

“We are so pleased and excited to welcome two community-oriented, hard-working individuals to the United Way board,” said Executive Director Sarah Block. “We are looking to move forward and grow, and there is no doubt these two will help us make the changes we yearn to see.”

As a Human Resources professional, Reinke has worked in labor law, labor relations, board policies, employee compensation and benefits, and retention and recruitment. She is a graduate of Mid Michigan Community College and holds a Human Resources Certification from the American Society of Employers, as well as a Human Capital Strategist Certification from the Human Capital Institute.

Reinke has served on the Board of Directors for the Mid-Michigan Human Resources Association in numerous roles, including Board President and Member Services Area Representative upon the merger with the Valley Society of Human Resources. She has also served on the American Society of Employers Advisory Council, United Way of Isabella and Gratiot Counties, Central Michigan University’s Employer Service Learning Committee, Clare County Kiwanis, Mid Michigan Community College Fall Festival, and was instrumental in organizing the Harrison Women’s Association and the Chamber of Commerce Welcome Committee.

Recently, Reinke joined the Clare-Gladwin Regional Education Service District team, working as the HR Specialist and Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent and Board of Education.

Matt Schafer

Matt Schafer

Schafer is the Owner and General Manager of Ace Hardware of Clare. He has been in retail for the last 20 years. A graduate of Clare High School, Mid Michigan Community College, and Central Michigan University, Schafer is the current Chair of the Business Referral Network (formerly Referrals Over Breakfast), and has been a member of that group since 2005.

Along with being a business owner in Clare, Schafer is also an advocate for other businesses, continuously working with other business owners to help their small businesses grow and thrive. He also supports the business community through various networking opportunities.

He lives in Farwell with his wife, Sara, and two children, Kaitlin and Nicholas.

United Way of Clare and Gladwin Counties Board President Jane Zdrojewski expressed that she and the rest of the board are excited to welcome Elaine and Matt.

“We are so pleased to have Elaine and Matt join our United Way team. Their backgrounds, community perspectives and passion for helping those in need make them ideal board candidates,” Zdrojewski said. “We look forward to getting them up-to-speed and actively engaged over the next few weeks.”
