Velma Beattie

Velma Beattie, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother passed away on July 9, 2012 at the age of 102.  Velma was born the daughter of Perry and Mary Smith on November 9, 1909 in Lapeer County.  She was united in marriage to Maynard I. Beattie in 1928; with him predeceasing her in 1986.  Velma attended Lapeer High School, Lapeer County Normal and Eastern Michigan University.  She taught in Oakland and Lapeer County Public Schools, retiring in 1969.  She was a member of the Lake Baptist Church in Lake.

Surviving are her three children Mary Lou (Elmer) Seelbinder of the Windover Lake area of Clare County, JoAnne (Glenn) Mawer of Lapeer and Ted (Kae) Beattie of Mears; fifteen grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren, all of them direct descendants of John Adams the 2nd President of the United States.

A Celebration of her life will be held at the Lake Baptist Church on Saturday, August 25 at 2:00 P.M.  Memorial donations may be made to Grace Hospice, 1484 Straits Drive, Suite 2, Bay City, Michigan 48706.  The Seelbinder, Mawer and Beattie families extend a special thanks to the staff of Grace Hospice, Bay City, and the wonderful caring and compassionate caregivers that looked after her around the clock.  Velma’s thoughts:  “I feel that I have been blessed with a wonderful family, friends, ancestors, and life.”  Cremation arrangements were handled by the Farwell Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home.  On-line guestbook at www.stephenson-wyman.com.
