Erica Vredevelt, Liaison Officer at Farwell Schools, is moving to a new position with the Clare County Sheriff’s Department. She was promoted to Detective May 1 and will take over her new duties as soon as a new Liaison Officer is selected for Farwell Schools.
A native of Grand Rapids, Erica is a former Licensed Practical Nurse worked in the Traumatically Brain Injured Pediatrics Unit at Grand Valley Foster Care near Grand Rapids. She went on to Officer’s Training School and worked as a corrections officer with Wackenhilt Prison in Baldwin for four years, was a corrections officer with Ottawa County for the next five years and came to the Clare County Sheriff’s Department seven years ago.
She first worked with Hayes Township and was a Marine and ORV Officer. She has held the Liaison Officer’s position in Farwell for the past five years.
Vredevelt joins Michael Coon as a detective at the Sheriff’s Department. “Because of the high number of investigations, we really needed another person as a detective. I’m really happy with Erica’s selection without adding any cost to the department’s budget. She has earned it,” Sheriff John Wilson said. “Our road officers just don’t have enough time to thoroughly investigate every incident. She will be able to do the needed follow up investigations.”
