Harrison’s Putt R Golf now aptly named Wazaka or Whatever Fun Center, has long been a staple for families visiting the area, especially during Clare County Fair week. But since James Rolin and his lovely wife Kathy have taken over the business three years ago, fun has really become their main goal.
The couple invested their time and energy into upgrading and adding new games and renovating existing areas and their dedication and vision for the business definitely shows. What is important is that they have found a great group of employees, all local young people, to help realize their dream.
Working as their General Manager is HHS graduate Cody Cooper, who is joined by Nick Fritz as the Assistant Manager. Also employed are Thomas Sofka, Zach Smith and Cody Rodgers, another HHS graduate of 2013.
“We really enjoy the work atmosphere and the great customers,” said Nick, “The Rolins are wonderful bosses who really encourage employee input and have gained our respect. They have a great vision for this place and we all hope to make that possible for them!”
Currently the Rolins have partnered with Michigan Adrenaline Rush Paintball to coordinate some great discounts for visitors to both businesses. The Rolins are always striving to connect with other businesses to support each other, something that in a tourist driven economy might be key to the survival of these small businesses. They hope to connect with other local businesses to offer deals for visitors using each partner, offer some discounts. According to Cooper, the sky is the limit and they are looking to reach as high as they can.
“Improvements are being made daily and we’ve begun replacing all the wood for brick on the golf course. Additionally, we are doing a lot of painting, adding color for curb appeal.”
Of course Putt R Golf (Wazaka) offers a HUGE variety of family fun, from the traditional 18 hole miniature golf course which is quite challenging, to Softball and Baseball batting cages, from GoKarts to an Arcade room with Air Hockey, Pool Tables, and loads of interesting and unique video games. Their location directly across from the main entrance to the Clare County Fairgrounds makes it a perfect stop for visitors during Fair week, this year coming from July 29th to August 3, and they are open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, seven days a week from 11 a.m.. They are also open on weekends during May and September.
So if you are in the mood to get your kids off the couch and away from the TV and home video games, come out and enjoy Harrison’s unique beauty in a natural setting at Wazaka or Whatever Fun Center, located at 501 W. Fairlane in Harrison. Prices are reasonable and they offer a lot of discounts for using several of their fun events on the same day, making it affordable for most families, even on a limited budget.
