The Clare girls kicked off the new year with a home win Tuesday night, topping visiting Meridian 69-32 in Jack Pine Conference play.
“It was nice to getting back out and playing,” Clare head coach Matt Rodenbo said. “Our rebounding was a concern in the first half but we did a much better job coming out after half time.”
The Lady Pioneers scored 23 points in the first quarter to take a 23-10 lead after one and pulled ahead 40-21 at the half.
Clare outscored Meridian 22-3 in the third quarter to lead 62-24 entering the fourth, where the Lady Mustangs had an 8-7 scoring edge.
Lindsay Winter led Clare with 28 points and nine assists, Kodi Humphrey had 12 points and five rebounds, Corinne Wezensky had 10 points and eight rebounds and Alex Stark had four points and 11 boards.
Clare (6-1, 5-0) played at Farwell on Thursday in a JPC contest and hosts non-league Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart Academy on Tuesday. Sacred Heart is the state’s third ranked team in class ‘D’ and is 5-1 on the season while the Lady Pioneers are class ‘B’ honorable mention.
