I Want to Give, Not Take

December 2, 2019

To Whom it may concern,
I am not the best writer or computer whiz in the world but I will do the best I can to tell my story, as well as reach out for help, which I am not good at either.

My name is Bob, I never thought I would see the day I asked for help. But, due to health reasons beyond my control, I am asking for help today.

Here is my story.
I have worked full-time most all my life. Independent, and self-reliant. Always paying my bills on time, by myself for approximately 12 years.

I also serve as a Clare County Firefighter/Emergency Medical Responder to date. I have served since 1986, on various departments over the years. I am also an active minister. I choose to help others any way I can. Now I am in need of a helping hand from my community.

For the past 3-4 years I have struggled with tachycardia. As well as severe level of PTSD, anxiety and depression. All seemed to be going fair up until late August of 2019.

My son 20 years old, and soon to be daughter-in-law 19 years old, gave me a granddaughter Anna on August 20, 2019.

In learning they were living in a house of heavy drinking and violence I brought them to live with me. I knew I could get them on their feet. I was working full-time, and making fair wages. They had no jobs, or a vehicle to look.

I had a spare auto I gave them to find work, and get Anna to her appointments. Thinking I would help them temporarily on plates and insurance. Little did I know my ideas and life was about to change drastically. By the end of August I had severe tachycardia attacks and landed in the Midland hospital. My cardiologist ended up putting what they call a loop reader in my chest. Which came with drastic work restrictions. My job title was head of maintenance. But my employer does not allow any restrictions at all. Therefore, my career their ended in early September. I could not get unemployment due to medical issues. I do have a court appearance day to get temporary disability on February 24, 2020 at 9:15 a.m. But there is no guarantee to this either.

In the meantime, we are receiving a little over 200.00 in state food assistance. I am receiving Medicaid for my appointments. I am also receiving services from the Clare County mental health. Our phone services have been shut off, they are going to shut off the electric, there is no funding anywhere to assist. My family and friends are trying to help as much as possible. I will be starting a very limited part time job for Clare County Senior Services delivering meals to the elderly November 25, 2019.

My son is looking for work. But soon car insurances will be expiring. As you can imagine everyday is a struggle. If we use our utilities here at my home, we have nowhere to go. Plus, I am now behind on my property taxes. I strongly BELIEVE in the power of PRAYER. But, I am asking for help please.

Normally for the holidays me whole home turns into a festival of lights and displays for my small community. Due to the fact of my electric services. This will be the first time in over 30 years my display will not light. I am not asking for anyone to feel sorry for us, I have to say this letter is very hard for me to write. I want to give , not take.

Thank you for reading my letter.
And God bless all you folks do.
