Clare native named top CMU business student

Central Michigan University senior Lisa Zelinski of Clare has been named one of CMU’s top business students for 2008.
Zelinski joins four of her peers in being named a College of Business Administration outstanding student of the year and will receive a $500 award. Majoring in accounting and personal financial planning, Zelinski has earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average for seven straight semesters at CMU.

Ringelberg announces candidacy

Former District Judge Jon H. Ringelberg has announced that he will again run for the office of District Judge in Clare and Gladwin Counties in the August 5, 2008, primary election. Previously Attorney Ringelberg served 16 years as Michigan's youngest ever elected District Judge. He has been engaged in general law practice for the past 24 years and has found his recent 'retirement' to be a bit boring. Read More...
 

Silver Ridge ‘postpones’ summer performances

Silver Ridge Music Festival enthusiasts will simply have to wait to hear the music.
The Mountain Country and Mountain Rock Festivals in Farwell have been postponed for this summer according to a May 1 release from Silver Ridge Music Festivals LLC.
The release said, “Silver Ridge Music Festivals LLC announces due to economic conditions the postponement of Mountain Country and Mountain Rock Festivals for 2008.”

State highway projects planned in Clare County

Several Michigan Department of Transportation highway projects are scheduled in Clare County for the coming months.
A .3 mile Interchange Beautification project including landscaping and planting trees at the Clare Avenue/US-127 interchange on the north side of Clare is scheduled to begin this month. The $636,000 project will have intermittent shoulder closures.

County road construction underway

Currently under construction, and closed to thru traffic, is one mile of Maple Grove Road between Bringold Avenue and Hemlock Avenue in Surrey Township.

Ruckle’s fire extinguished …

Both Clare and Surrey Fire Departments were on the scene Tuesday afternoon at Ruckle’s Pier in Clare for a report of large amounts of smoke in the business. Clare City Police officers evacuated Ruckle’s and surrounding businesses and McEwan Street in front of the scene was closed while firefighters were on the scene. Read More...

The Mid Michigan Community College Foundation raised over $107,000 at its seventh annual fundraiser, A Northern Tradition, on April 20, 2008.
The Northern Tradition is the Foundation’s biggest fundraiser. In seven years, the event has raised over $566,000.
