Earl Junior Martenies

Earl Junior Martenies, age 87 of Kalkaska, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.  Earl was born the son of Earl 1-5-18 OBIT Marteniesand Florence Martenies on February 14, 1930 in Lansing.  On May 26 1982, Earl was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Louise” Lutey in Williamston, MI., and she survives him.  During his working years, Earl enjoyed meeting many people as a technician for the gas division of Consumers Power.  He later became the head of maintenance for the Williamston Jr. High School and greatly enjoyed being the adopted “grandpa” of all of his students.

After retiring from Williamston Schools, Earl and Louise moved to Harrison for 25 years before moving to Kalkaska.  Earl enjoyed being active in the Clare Church of the Nazarene where he was a member, and he was also very proud of his Naval service during the Korean War.

Earl is survived by his wife Louise of Kalkaska, his children Earl “Butch” Martenies of Lansing, Deborah Reich of Ohio, Vicky (Gerald) Derk of Kalkaska, Melinda Weichel of Lansing, and John Salyers of Traverse City, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Florence Martenies, his sister Debbie and his son Mike Salyers.

A funeral service for Earl will take place on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Clare Church of the Nazarene at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Jim Young Officiating.  Friends may visit with the family at the church on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. to the time of service at 1:00 P.M.  Burial will follow in the Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare.  Memorial contributions in honor of Earl are recommended to the National Parkinson Foundation.  Arrangements by the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be made at www.stephenson-wyman.com
