Richard “Dick” A. LaPoe

Richard “Dick” A. LaPoe, age 81 of Clare, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 22, 2017 at the Green Acres Assisted Living Home of Mt. Pleasant.  Dick 1-5-18 OBIT LaPoewas born the son of Bennie and Ina (Bouchey) LaPoe on June 28, 1936.  On June 19, 1956, Dick was united in marriage to LaFern Lucas, and she preceded him in death in 2013.  After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School and briefly attending MSU, Dick returned to Mt. Pleasant and started what became a very successful dairy farming career, having been a Kellogg Farmer nominee and serving multiple years with the Michigan Holstein Association.  In 1970, Dick and LaFern moved their farm to Clare and from there raised their family.  Dick loved spending time hunting (especially in Africa), fishing, checking in on his Subway franchise investments in his retirement years, and being involved in events at his church, but most importantly, Dick loved being together with family.

Dick is survived by his children Laurie and Tom Myers of Mt. Pleasant, Kathy Lunn of Cheyenne, WY., Mike (Kathleen) LaPoe of Clare, Jeff (Lori) LaPoe of Mt. Pleasant, and Brad (Jamie) LaPoe of Clare, his eight  grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife LaFern, his parents Bennie and Ina LaPoe, his siblings Charles LaPoe, Robert and Harold Overmier, and Arlene Skelton, and his grandson Justin Lunn.

A celebration of life will take place on Friday, January 5th at 12 Noon at the Brown Corners United Brethren church of Clare with Pastor Dave Luther officiating.  Friends may meet with the family at the church from 10 AM until Noon.  Memorial contributions in honor of Dick may be made to MidMichigan Hospice & Homecare or to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  The LaPoe family would also like to extend a special thank-you to the staff of the Green Acre facility.  Online condolence may be made at www.stephenson-wyman.com
