The area will soon have another medical marijuana facility in operation.

On December 22, the Wise Township board approved three licenses, two Class C licenses for grow facilities of up to 1,500 plants and the third for a processing facility for Michael Smolin of West Bloomfield and Chris Kososki of Highland. A Class C grow facility is allowed up to 1,500 plants.

Wise Township started accepting applications for licenses in November after enacting an ordinance to allow up to two Class C grower facilities. Operators of other types of facilities are also eligible to apply. The ordinance also allows two Class A grow operations of up to 500 plants each and two Class B grow operations of up to 1,000 plants. It also allows for up to two processing facilities, two provisioning centers, two secure transporter facilities and two safety compliance testing facilities.

The address for Smolin and Kososki’s grow and processing facility is on 20 acres at 10169 North Loomis Road, south of Loomis and just north of East Grass Lake Road. The licenses are the first issued in Isabella County.

Reportedly the business will include buildings already on the property and new structures. Smolin and Kosoki still have to get licenses from the State of Michigan for their facility. The State started accepting applications in December, but have not issued licenses as yet.
